Heat and time make the skin to lose most of its natural qualities. As we age the circulation decreases notably in the deepest layers of the skin along with a decreased production of collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid. As a result the skin dehydrates and loses volume and texture. The loss of the elastic tissue causes the skin to hang loosely.
The therapy with facial fillers consist of injecting hyaluronic acid under the skin with the intention of recover volume and improve hydration of the skin. Fillers are injected along with anesthesia in order to decrease pain.
One of the most widely used facial fillers is hyaluronic acid. This product smooths the subcutaneous folds, stimulates the production of collagen and improves skin hydration. It is frequently used to decrease the nasolabial fold and to improve marionette lines around the mouth. It also can be used to increase volume on the cheeks and lips. The results are noted immediately with a more youthful and attractive skin. The treatment needs to be repeated every 6 to 9 months.
There could be temporary swelling at the site of injection but most patients are able to tolerate the procedure without complications.
